The Hearst Foundations Excellence in Geriatric Education Awards - Eligibility Guidelines for Nursing Programs

The Hearst Foundations Excellence in Geriatric Education Awards selection is based on the extent to which the evidence provided in the application indicates excellence and innovation in geriatric nursing education.

  • One faculty member from each applicant school must have participated in Innovations in Teaching: An ACES workshop and in both ACES webinars.
    ***Please see below for exceptions to this guideline.
  • One faculty member from each applicant school must have used ACES Essential Nursing Actions and/or Knowledge Domains from the ACES workshops, webinars, and website www.nln.org/ACES to enhance geriatric nursing education for students.
    ***Please see below for exceptions to this guideline.
  • Nursing programs may apply only once between 2012 and 2015. (There will be a total of 12 awards between 2012 and 2015.) The award winners must present their geriatric education materials based on ACES at the NLN Education Summit Pre-Summit ACES Workshop and must attend the NLN Education Summit.
***Exceptions
  • Nursing programs whose faculty attended one of the ACES conferences (2010 at Seminole State College or Philadelphia; 2011 at Palm Beach State College or Philadelphia) ARE ELIGIBLE to apply.
  • The following nursing programs, whose faculty participated in the development of ACES, ARE NOT ELIGIBLE to apply: Community College of Philadelphia, Delaware County Community College, Gwynedd Mercy College, International University of Nursing, Johns Hopkins University, LincolnLand Community College, Miami Dade College, Oregon Health Sciences University, Palm Beach State College, Seminole State College, and Valencia Community College.
