Janice Brewington, PhD, RN, FAAN

Chief Program Officer
Dr. Janice Brewington is the chief program officer and director for the Center for Transformational Leadership at the National League for Nursing, where she implements two yearlong leadership programs. She also served as senior director for research and professional development. 

Dr. Brewington was provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical (NC A&T) State University. While at NC A&T State University, she had a unique opportunity to be an “executive on loan” for 18 months with the Gillette Company in Boston where she was employed as manager for university relations in talent acquisition, human resources, global shared services, North America.
   
Her educational background includes a BSN degree from NC A&T State University, an MSN degree from Emory University, and a PhD degree in Health Policy and Administration from the School of Public Health, with a minor in Organizational Behavior from the School of Business, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also received a certificate from the Management and Leadership Institute at Harvard University. 

Th American Academy of Nursing selected Dr. Brewington as a Living Legend. She is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. She has provided organizational development consultation services to nonprofit businesses, city and county agencies, and universities in areas such as organization assessment, strategic planning, executive coaching, leadership, and program assessment and evaluation. Dr. Brewington serves as a consultant for Tavistock group relations conferences in the US, Europe, and Asia. She is also an executive coach. As a scholar, she has published articles and a book, Roving Leadership: Breaking through the Boundaries, with Dr. Salvatore Tagliareni. Dr. Brewington has received numerous honors and awards. 

She has served on various state and national boards including United Way of Greater Greensboro, Wells Springs, Cone Health, Guilford Technical Community College. Dr. Brewington currently serves on the Nurses on Boards Coalition, International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing Advisory Council, and George Washington University Social Mission Advisory Council. She has secured over $30 million in grant funding for innovative programs such as leadership development, violence prevention, student preparation for STEM disciplines, and health promotion and disease prevention.
