CNE®cl Eligibility

Pursuing certification as an Certified Academic Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE®cl) should be a goal for those who, after carefully reviewing the test blueprint and the eligibility requirements, you determine that the educational and experiential qualifications have provided you with sufficient opportunity to participate meaningfully in the full scope of this role.

All eligibility criteria for initial certification must be met at the time of application.

Option A: Must meet criteria 1, 2, & 3
  1. Licensure: Documentation of valid licensure/certificate or other documentation of unencumbered practice as a nurse in one's country of residence.
  2. Education: A graduate degree with a focus in nursing education
  3. Professional Practice: Three years in any area of nursing






Option B: Must meet criteria 1, 2, 3, & 4
  1. Licensure: Documentation of valid licensure/certificate or other documentation of unencumbered practice in one's country of residence.
  2. Education: A baccalaureate degree in nursing (or higher)
  3. Professional Practice: Three years in any area of nursing.
  4. Academic Practice: Two years of teaching experience in an academic setting within the last five years (may include simulation).



 

Disclaimer: The Certified Academic Clinical Nurse Educator exam was developed to measure competence in the scope of the academic clinical nurse educator practice role. The test itself was not developed as a measure of graduate program outcomes.
