This presentation will introduce the new NLN Practical/Vocational (PN/VN) Faculty Initiative as a resource center for PN/VN faculty. Additionally, this webinar is designed to bring information to PN/VN nurse educator faculty about the development and use of nurse educator competencies established for the role of PN/VN faculty. 

Course Objectives

  • Describe the processes of the development of the practical/vocational nurse educator competencies and task statements
  • Review the PN/VN role competencies and task statements
  • Describe the new NLN PN/VN Faculty Initiative. 

Speakers

Larry Simmons
PhD, RN, CNE, NEA-BC, CGNC, ICE-CCP, FAAN

Larry Simmons has more than 25 years of experience in nursing education. His current expertise includes certifications, test construction and test item writing, curriculum issues, and ongoing faculty development and is a nationally recognized speaker. He also holds certification as a certification professional by the Institute for Certification Excellence. Larry has been Senior Director and then Director of the CNE program at the NLN for the past 12 years. He has been instrumental in the development of the certification program, including testing internationally and the development of the clinical nurse educator, certified novice nurse educator certifications, as well as the development of the practical nursing/vocational nursing competencies and task statements. In 2023, he was inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nursing.

Linda Christensen
EdD, JD, MSN,RN, CNE, FAAN
Linda Christensen is a nurse-educator-administrator-lawyer. She has more than 35 years of experience in nursing education, ranging from teaching nursing assistant classes at a community college to teaching graduate nursing students. During her time as an education administrator, she served as program director (for various levels of nursing), dean of nursing, and vice president of academic affairs. As a lawyer, she has served as a civil litigator, in-house attorney, and legal writing instructor. For the past 25 years, Linda has served as an expert witness on various health and education related lawsuits.  Linda has authored various chapters on legal issues in nursing education and is a frequent      speaker on legal issues, with a focus on nursing education and the law.
