The NLN Credentialing Department oversees two divisions: Certification and Certificate.

The Certification Division manages all registration, testing, and renewal activities related to the NLN nurse educator certification programs: CNE, CNEcl, CNEn, and the upcoming CNEpv. This division, however, does not oversee preparatory courses related to those certifications.

The Assessment-Based Certificate Division provides continued learning that results in a completion certificate of the courses taken. These multi-faceted courses require completion of all the modules included to earn a certificate.

Certification in any field is a mark of professionalism. For academic nurse educators, this establishes nursing education as a specialty area of practice and creates a means for faculty to demonstrate their expertise in this role—showing students, peers, and the academic and health care communities that the highest standards of excellence are being met.

By becoming a certified nurse educator, you serve as a leader and a role model. Certification is the mark of distinction for nursing faculty.

The NLN now offers modular education. Certificate offerings range from 3-7 modules and each module must be completed with the final assessment taken before the continuing education (CE) certificate and digital badge are made available. The modules are asynchronous online learning on the NLN learning management system.
