NLN'S First Faculty Leadership Conference Sells Out
Faculty Development & Networking Meeting at Coronado Springs Resort - Disney World, Orlando - January 11-13, 2008

November 13, 2007 — New York, NY — Offering nurse educators the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills through panel discussions and seminars led by a respected roster of master faculty and leaders in the profession, the National League for Nursing will hold its first Faculty Leadership Conference this winter at Disneys Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida. Within weeks of the NLN announcement last month, the event sold out, drawing nearly 200 nurse faculty, representing more than 150 schools of nursing at all levels of higher education, reflecting the widespread interest in professional advancement among nursing faculty nationwide.
Sessions will focus on identifying elements that comprise leadership; assessing ones own leadership potential; crafting a vision of leadership in nursing education; how to utilize strategic management to create a more positive work environment; and ways to strengthen mentoring skills and role-modeling behaviors. In addition, participants will be encouraged to network with national leaders and colleagues and learn how effective leadership can help build a strong and diverse nursing workforce, one of the NLNs stated aims.
"We are proud to have organized this three-day conference for nurse educators to exchange ideas, insights, and experiences and benefit from the expertise of leaders in the field," asserted Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, the CEO of the NLN who will serve as one of the keynote speakers along with NLN president Elaine Tagliareni, EdD, RN. "Our faculty colleagues are at the forefront of transforming the nursing workforce to meet the challenges of an ever-changing health care environment. And at the NLN, we are committed to providing the tools needed to advance the profession in every way." Added Dr. Tagliareni, "We aim to empower nurse educators to become exemplars of academic excellence within their institutions. This inaugural conference is certain to cultivate new perspectives."
At the opening address on Friday evening, Drs. Malone and Tagliareni will share the platform for "Faculty as Leaders: Empowering the Voice of Nursing Education." The two other featured speakers are Gloria Ferraro Donnelly, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions at Drexel University in Philadelphia, and Terry Valiga, EdD, RN, FAAN, the NLNs chief program officer. Dr. Donnelly will give the Saturday lunchtime presentation, "Disruptive Innovations in Nursing Education: Leading and Managing Change." Dr. Valigas talk, "Leadership and Excellence in Nursing Education: Where We Go from Here," will conclude the conference on Sunday morning.
