FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY — June 2, 2010 — Inspired by President Bill Clintons 2007 book, Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World, this volume from the National League for Nursing and the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education celebrates the remarkable stories of nurse educators from around the globe. Editors Joyce Fitzpatrick, NLN president Cathleen Shultz, and NLN Foundation trustee Tonia Aiken, all leading nurse educators, reached out to more than 100 colleagues, asking them to share details of their personal and professional experiences — their goals, challenges, groundbreaking achievements, and heartwarming tales of healing.
"The NLN Foundation for Nursing Education is proud to offer this latest addition to the canon of literature on nursing education," said Dr. Fran Hicks, chair of the NLN Foundation Board of Trustees. "I also applaud the spirit of generosity of these nurse educators who are donating the proceeds from the sale of the book to the NLN Foundation. They are still giving back, helping more students who need scholarship assistance attend nursing school."
The first time that the global initiatives of nurse educators have been published in one collection, Giving Through Teaching showcases the exciting diversity within todays nursing community with a behind-the-scenes look at international work being done by US nurse educators.
Among the books highlights:
- Tales from the frontlines by nurses who worked through the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, in Iraq, and other disaster-stricken sites
- Global- and US-based educational partnerships, featuring stories of nurses working to improve schools, hospitals, and communities around the world
"These collected stories will undoubtedly inspire nurse educators everywhere. Giving Through Teaching is a must-have for every nurses and nurse educators library," asserted NLN CEO Dr. Beverly Malone, who also serves on the board of the NLN Foundation.
Added Dr. Shultz, "It was my great honor to be associated with this project, and I salute the contributors who have made the publication possible."
