NLN to Present Fifth Annual Technology Conference: "Health Information Technology” Meaningful Uses in Nursing Education"

Two Pre-Conference Events: Developing Interdisciplinary Simulations and Mobile Technology for Education and Practice: Exploring Innovative Applications of the IPad; ITouch;and Other Devices

New York, NY — October 7, 2010 — The National League for Nursing celebrates this Halloween with the technology experts. Participants in the NLNs 5th Annual Technology Conference will learn from nationally and internationally acclaimed speakers about state-of-the-art applications of simulation, e-learning, informatics, and telehealth to enhance their own skills in this rapidly evolving arena of nursing education to best prepare students to function in todays technology-rich health care environment.

Diane Skiba, PhD, FAAN, FACMI, professor and health care informatics option coordinator at the University of Colorado, Denver School of Nursing, will open the conference with her keynote address, "Digital Wisdom."

Other featured presenters are:

• Helen Connors, PhD, RN, FAAN, associate dean and professor, University of Kansas School of Nursing and executive director of the KU Center for Healthcare Informatics, on the meaning of "meaningful use" of healthcare technology for nursing education
• Janet Grady, DrPH, RN, ANEF, associate professor and director of the nursing program at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and principal investigator on the Office of Naval Research-sponsored project,"Nursing Telehealth Applications Initiative," with great ideas for preparing students for telehealth practice
• Pamela Jeffries, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, associate dean for acedemic affairs at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, on all the booming developments in simulation — in both academic and clinical settings
• Diane Billings, EdD, RN, FAAN, Chancellors Professor Emeritus from Indiana University School of Nursing and Mary Anne Rizzolo, EdD, RN, FAAN, who will bring the conference up-to-date on the federally funded HITS Scholar Program and the accomplishments of the first three cohorts of scholars in the HITS/HRSA grant program

There will also be opportunities to tour state-of-the-art simulation centers and an e-ICU and to attend concurrent sessions on e-Learning; unfolding case studies; using simulation for high stakes assessment; telehealth; Second Life; and social networking.

Two engaging pre-conference workshops will take place Friday morning, before the conference opens at noon:
