FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY — November 4, 2010 — The Virginia Henderson International Nursing Library, whose mission is to provide knowledge resources to help nurses advance patient care, has partnered with the National League for Nursing to make available through the library's electronic database the rich corpus of nursing education research presented each year at the NLN's Education Summit, beginning with the 2010 conference, held September 29 - October 2 in Las Vegas.
Both poster and paper presentations, along with available abstracts, reside in the librarys extensive archive, the Registry of Nursing Research, which nurses may access free of charge. It includes contact information for principal investigators. Click here.
"The NLN is delighted to enter into this partnership with STTI and the Virginia Henderson Library to preserve as a body the research presented at the annual Education Summit," said NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN. "Those who attend the Summit are often intrigued to follow up, and this arrangement will surely facilitate that. One key to the advancement of the science of nursing education is ready access to research, which promotes the sharing of information, which in turn, leads to new scholarship."
The announcement of the decision by the Henderson Library to archive the presentations was made during the Summits Opening Session by NLN president Cathleen Shultz, PhD, RN, FAAN, CNE. "Having the Summit research presentations available online in this respected forum reflects the position the Summit itself has come to occupy among todays leading scholars in nursing education," Dr. Shultz said. "The NLN's goal to advance the science of nursing education dovetails with that of the international nursing honor society."
The library is the realization of Sigma Theta Tau Internationals goal to offer nurses, in all roles around the globe, online access to reliable nursing information that can be easily utilized and shared. The ultimate goal is to make the library one of the most comprehensive resources for nursing information available. One of its founders is Anne Bavier, newly re-elected to a three-year term as governor-at-large on the NLN Board of Governors.
