Midwest Nursing Research Society and National League for Nursing Ink Agreement to Support Doctoral Research in Nursing Education

Each Organization to Award $2,500 in 2012 to a Doctoral Candidate Working on Dissertation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, NY — August 30, 2011 — The National League for Nursing (NLN) and the Wheat Ridge, Colorado-based Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) have married their mutual interest in advancing the science of nursing education through an agreement to award grant money in 2012 to two doctoral students engaged in dissertation research in nursing education. It is anticipated that this exciting new collaboration will spark an increase in the number and quality of doctoral dissertations on nursing education research, while increasing awareness among nurse educators in the 13-state MNRS regional catchment area.

To be eligible, candidates must belong to both organizations; be enrolled in a doctoral program with a research focus; have successfully completed the dissertation proposal process; and be working on a study clearly focused on nursing education research and compliant with the requirements for each organizations research submission process.

"The League is delighted to team up with our colleagues at the MNRS for this important purpose," said NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN. "In seeking to promote the science of nursing education, we will be helping to expand the evidence base for best practices in a multiplicity of health care settings. Ultimately, this translates into higher quality, safer care for all Americans."

Added NLN president Cathleen M. Shultz, PhD, RN, CNE, FAAN: "This new partnership reflects our belief in the value of scholarship and is in keeping with the NLNs Vision statement released by the NLN Board of Governors in January 2011 encouraging academic progression and lifelong learning to move nurse educators toward a terminal degree in the profession."

Janet Larsen, PhD, RN, FAAN, MNRS president, commented, "MNRS and the MNRS Foundation support research, research utilization, and research careers. The new NLN and MNRS agreement to provide grant funding to doctoral students is a perfect fit in support of these goals. We are very pleased with the initiation of this agreement and look forward to its success for years to come."
