New York, NY — January 17, 2012 — Researchers in clinical and academic settings; nursing school deans, other administrators, and nurse faculty; nurses with an international education and practice focus; nursing students; grant recipients; funders; and those in related health care roles will find much to gain from a conference this spring on nursing education research, co-sponsored by the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) and the National League for Nursing. Innovations in Nursing Education Research is set for June 15-16 (Friday-Saturday) 2012 at the University Place Conference Center & Hotel in Indianapolis, IN.

The day-and-a-half-long gathering features a lineup of luminaries in nursing education research. Dr. Patricia Benner will be the first presenter on Friday, June 15 with her talk on "Transforming Nursing Education Through Nursing Education Research." On Saturday morning, Dr. Carol Hurston will moderate "Quality Indicators of Graduate Programs in Nursing Education," a panel discussion featuring NLN president Dr. Judith Halstead, STTI president Dr. Suzanne Prevost, and Dr. Pegge Bell. Later that morning Dr. Marion Broome will present "Leading Nursing Research & Innovation."

A series of concurrent sessions throughout the conference will cover varied topics in nursing education research including: policy research; technology/simulation and informatics; testing educational interventions; and the mechanics involved in obtaining funding and publishing. Other sessions will be devoted to research standards and issues surrounding workplace environment and leadership. Separate tracks will be available for faculty and students, both doctoral and pre-doctoral.

"As research is a collaborative endeavor, we at the NLN are pleased to be partnering with colleagues at STTI to bring nursing education research to the forefront of consciousness in the community of nurse educators," said Dr. Halstead.

Two pre-conference workshops on Friday, June 15 will explore the applications of innovative research designs and methods.

NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN and Patricia E. Thompson, EdD, RN, FAAN, the CEO of STTI, will open the conference together with welcoming remarks at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 15.
