Presentations to Take Place at NLN Education Summit in Anaheim, CA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New York, NY — September 5, 2012 — Six distinguished nurse educators will be awarded research grants by the National League for Nursing, facilitating investigations to advance the science of nursing education and promote evidence-based teaching, two key goals of the NLNs competitive Nursing Education Research Grants Program.
The grants will be formally announced at a special ceremony during the Annual Business Meeting on Thursday, September 20 at the 2012 NLN Education Summit in Anaheim, California. The four-day gathering is a much anticipated opportunity for nurse educators, deans and administrators of nursing schools across the spectrum of higher education and health care executives in allied organizations, to hear from the experts, in seminars; workshops; panel discussions; and poster sessions, as well as to engage in professional networking.
"With evidence-based education and evidence-based practice fast becoming the standard for nursing regulatory and nursing accrediting agencies, the NLN has been proud of its leadership role in establishing nursing education research as the foundation for building the science of nursing education, facilitating and funding research in this area, and nurturing the development of novices into expert scholars," noted NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN.
To be eligible for support, projects had to meet at least one of the NLNs current priorities for research, which place a particular emphasis on transforming nursing education for the contemporary health care environment. As approved by the NLN Board of Governors, the Leagues research priorities call for robust research designs to create links between practice and education and creative approaches to build capacity for education research scholars. The program favors multi-site projects that involve partnerships between practice and education.
Funding from the NLN, which has steadily grown in the past decade from an initial $12,000 to more than $80,000 annually, is supported by endowments and donations to the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education.
