2013 NLN Immersion Experience The Revolution in Teaching: Leading the Way

New York, NY — April 3, 2013 — The National League for Nursing is proud to once again offer nurse educators a unique five-day intensive exploration of teaching and leadership development at the 2013 NLN Immersion Experience, Sunday, June 2 through Thursday, June 6. The gathering will take place just north of Chicago, in the neighboring city of Evanston at the Hilton Orrington/Evanston & Conference Center.
Participants will exchange ideas with NLN expert faculty and with colleagues in small groups that focus on specific active teaching/learning strategies and leadership skill development. Everyone will depart the conference with new understanding of ways to integrate innovative teaching strategies into the curriculum, use leadership principles to facilitate change, and work more effectively in complex organizational systems. There will also be plenty of opportunity to dialogue with experts about evidence-based teaching and network with colleagues.
NLN President-elect Marsha Howell Adams, DSN, RN, CNE, ANEF, the assistant dean of undergraduate programs and a professor in the Capstone College of Nursing at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, is this years keynote speaker. In addition to her faculty and administrative responsibilities at the university and impressive resume of awards and recognition for teaching and scholarship, Dr. Adams has served the NLN with distinction. Among her many commitments to the League have been service on the Board of Governors; the Academic Nurse Educator Certification Commission; the Editorial Board of Nursing Education Perspectives, and as chair of the NLN Excellence in Nursing Education Task Group. A rural nursing consultant for more than 25 years, Dr. Adams has focused her clinical research and publications on nursing education related to the health of rural women and children.
Following Sunday evenings welcome dinner and Dr. Adams keynote, individuals will select one of four specialty tracks to pursue throughout the week, each designed to meet the emergent needs of nurse educators to implement creative strategies to transform nursing education:
- Track I: Teaching for Impact
- Track II: Leading in Complex Organization
- Track III: Using Simulation in New Environments
- Track IV: Translating Evidence into Practice
