New York, NY — July 29, 2013 — The National League for Nursings eighth annual Technology Conference takes place the weekend of October 25-27 at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Unleash the Power: Technology in Education and Practice will spotlight the latest developments in simulation, e-learning, informatics, and telehealth, and explore their importance to nursing and nursing education.
Throughout the conference, in plenary and concurrent sessions, panel discussions, and workshops, participants will hear from leading national and international scholars in technology in nursing education who will share their latest research findings, insights, and strategies for marshaling the most up-to-date resources in both classroom and clinical settings.
With so much reported these days on MOOCs, Diane Skiba, PhD, FAAN, FACMI, will deliver the keynote address on the opportunities and challenges this novel teaching/learning model presents to higher education in general and nursing programs, specifically. Dr. Skiba, professor and coordinator of healthcare informatics at the University of Colorado-Denver, is project director of the Colorado Health Information Technology Education Collaborative and of the HRSA-funded iTEAM project.
Other plenary sessions will feature:
- Dr. Diane Billings challenge to redesign the classroom for improved teaching/learning and assessment
- Dr. Janet Willhaus update on the NCSBN simulation study
- Dr. Judy Warren on federal informatics initiatives and how they may influence curricula
- Dr. Helen Connors on the impact telehealth is making on health care, in her report from the American Telehealth Association
In addition, the conference will offer concurrent sessions on varied topics, including: integrating tablet computing into the curriculum; the collaborative use of telehealth and mobile applications for improved patient management; using simulation to promote critical thinking among NPs; and new unfolding cases for veterans and patients with Alzheimers. Also on the agenda are tours of Jeffersons simulation centers and the NLNs popular "unconferences," - open discussion forums where participants share their experiences and learn from one another. As always, there will be plenty of opportunity for professional networking and catching up with colleagues.
