Two Graduates of NLN Leadership Institute Program for Simulation Educators Gain Advanced Certification from Society for Simulation in Healthcare
Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator-Advanced (CHSE-A) Awards Presented at International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare

Washington, DC, March 6, 2014 — Dr. Susan Gross Forneris and Dr. Lorrie Wong, both of whom completed the National League for Nursings Leadership Development Program for Simulation Educators in 2010, were among the 16 international simulation educators awarded the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator-Advanced (CHSE-A) at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) in San Francisco last month. Also among the award recipients were three distinguished simulation nurse educators who have had leadership roles in NLN initiatives related to the Leagues support of simulation in nursing education: Dr. Mindi Anderson, Maureen Tremel, and Dr. Linda Wilson.

The same philosophy of academic progression guides the NLN’s mission to promote excellence in nursing education to prepare a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the nations health," said NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN.
Added NLN president Marsha Howell Adams, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, senior associate dean of academic programs and professor at the Capstone College of Nursing, University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa: "We are proud to congratulate all those who have achieved this high honor in simulation education. On behalf of the League, Id like to recognize, in particular, those who have helped advance simulation in nursing education through participation in NLN initiatives."
Since completing the NLN Leadership Development Program for Simulation Educators, Dr. Forneris has maintained her professional ties to the NLN. She currently serves as the Leagues simulation scholar-in-residence, while remaining on the faculty of St. Catherine University in St. Paul, MN as associate professor. Dr. Wong is an associate professor and director at the University of Hawaii Translational Health Science Simulation Center in Honolulu.
Dr. Anderson, simulation coordinator and assistant professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, is one of the authors responsible for the expert content on the NLN Simulation Information Resource Center (SIRC).
Maureen Tremel, a professor in the nursing program at Seminole State College of Florida, was a Health Information Technology Scholar (HITS). The program was a HRSA-supported collaboration between the NLN and select schools of nursing to integrate health information technology into nursing curriculum.
Dr. Wilson, assistant dean for special projects, simulation and CNE accreditation and associate professor at the College of Nursing and Health Professions, Drexel University in Philadelphia, served on the Leagues think tank that stimulated the creation of the NLN Presidential Task Force on High Stakes Testing.
In addition, the following simulation educators received the CHSE-Advanced Award from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare: Angela Blood, Becky Damazo, Teresa Gore, Debra Nestel, Vsevolod Perelman, Jill Sanko, Taylor Sawyer, Dawn Schocken, Jane Smitten, Lisa Varenhorst, and Jason Zigmont.
