NLN CEO Malone Honored
Double Honors for NLN CEO Dr. Beverly Malone
Washington, DC, April 29, 2016 - The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and the College of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health at Tuskegee University have each chosen Beverly Malone, CEO of the National League for Nursing, for distinguished honors in 2016. IHI, an influential force in health and health care improvement in the United States and a growing number of nations abroad, has invited Dr. Malone to be a co-chair of its 28th Annual National Forum, December 4-7, 2016 in Orlando, Florida. The forum is expected to draw six thousand health care professionals, with thousands more participating via satellite from around the world; Dr. Malone, along with her three co-chairs, will serve as leader, host, and teacher.
“A current IHI priority is the reduction of inequality in access to quality health care, a goal that dovetails with the NLN’s core values of caring, integrity, diversity, and excellence, as the League endeavors to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of the nation and the global community,” remarked Dr. Malone. “I am honored to accept this invitation and act as an ambassador for IHI’s important mission.”
“With your help and leadership, we will make the 2016 Forum even bigger and better than last year’s very successful conference in offering a robust and cutting-edge program,” Derek Feeley, IHI president and CEO, asserted.
On April 2, Dr. Malone was inducted into the Nursing Hall of Fame at Tuskegee University in Alabama, one of the nation’s leading colleges and universities with a proud legacy as a historically black institution of higher education. The honor is of special significance to Dr. Malone who, earlier in her career, served as dean of the School of Nursing at a sister institution, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University.
Tuskegee also noted Dr. Malone’s steady but impressive rise from her first professional job as a staff nurse to leading positions in higher education, government, and international affairs.
NLN president Anne R. Bavier, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean and professor of nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington, commented on the League’s behalf. “I am always proud to serve alongside Bev in promoting excellence in nursing education, and the occasion of her induction into the Tuskegee Nursing Hall of Fame provides yet another opportunity to sing her praises. This honor recognizes Bev’s continuous service to humanity.”
