Washington, DC, November 15, 2016 - The National League for Nursing Foundation for Nursing Education has joined Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Occurring this year on November 29, Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and after the widely recognized shopping events, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It kicks off the holiday giving season and inspires people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back to the causes they support.

Through #NLNGivingTuesday, the NLN Foundation is raising awareness and funds and engaging with individuals and organizations through social media. Participants may donate, take action on our Advocacy Action Center, take an #UNselfie, and reach out to friends and colleagues with our ready-to-send messages about the importance giving to nursing education and its impact on the health of our nation. All funds will support the NLN Foundation’s scholarships for nurse educators and the building of an NLN archive at the Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. The NLN Archives Project is supported by a matching grant from the Independence Foundation of Philadelphia.

“Giving Tuesday has its own special resonance with the public,” noted NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN. “The NLN Foundation is pleased to join in this timely and inspiring avenue to highlight the importance of supporting nursing education”.

The NLN Foundation aims to reach $25,000 from #NLNGivingTuesday efforts. In 2015, its fourth year, the Giving Tuesday movement, brought together more than 45,000 partners in 71 countries and helped raise nearly $117 million online in the US alone.
