NLN Announces 2017 Research Grants, NLN Foundation Scholarships, and Jonas Scholars

Awards to Be Presented at Annual Education Summit in San Diego
Washington, DC, September 4, 2017 - Select doctoral candidates in nursing education and scholars pursuing innovative research in nursing education will get a financial boost in the coming year from grants and scholarships to be awarded at the 2017 NLN Education Summit at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, September 14-16.

As in years past, NLN president Anne Bavier, PhD, RN, FAAN, and professor and dean of the University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing and Health Innovation in Austin, noted the significance of the NLN's scholarship and research grant programs: "Support for scholarship in teaching and research is critical to the fulfillment of the NLN's mission to promote excellence in nursing education to prepare a diverse, outstanding nursing workforce to advance the health of the nation and of the global community. On behalf of the NLN, I extend congratulations to our scholarship and grant award winners and thank the members of the selection committees who volunteer their time."

Added NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN: "A special 'thank you' to donors to the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education who make the scholarship and research grants programs possible. The future depends on continued giving, so I encourage everybody with a stake in promoting excellence in nursing education to consider supporting the NLN Foundation. We want to do all we can to expand the number of scholars deserving of our support."

2017-18 Jonas Scholars - Eighth Cohort

The NLN Jonas Scholars Program, established in 2010 through generous funding from the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence, addresses a core formal goal of the NLN: advancement of the science of nursing education. The initiative includes a comprehensive mentoring component that engages scholars in peer-to-peer interactions, and nurtures relationships between scholars and faculty mentors.

NLN Jonas Scholars are selected by faculty in selected schools of nursing with a focus on nursing education research and mentored by scholars in the NLN | Chamberlain Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education. Funds include financial support for the scholars' research through the final year of doctoral study, as well as travel expenses to meetings with mentors at the NLN Education Summit. NLN Jonas Scholars in previous cohorts have since graduated and joined the ranks of doctoral-prepared nurse faculty, fulfilling the grant's stated purpose to advance the science of nursing education through evidence-based research. Members of the newest cohort of NLN Jonas Scholars are:
