| National League for Nursing Welcomes New Class into the
Academy of Nursing Education

Washington, DC, July 19, 2018 —
Fourteen distinguished nurse educators have been selected for the twelfth class of fellows to be inducted into the prestigious Academy of Nursing Education, the National League for Nursing has announced.
In addition, two individuals in affiliated professions or public service that have made significant contributions to nursing education have been named honorary fellows. Together, these sixteen bring total academy membership to 285 leaders in nursing education, from nursing programs across academia and from other organizations committed to advancing the quality of health care in the US and globally. Following tradition, the induction ceremony will take place at the NLN Honors Convocation, held on Friday evening, September 14 in Chicago during the 2018 NLN Education Summit. In a competitive application process, the Academy of Nursing Education Review Panel has a great deal to consider before recommending fellowship candidates to the NLN Board of Governors, the oversight body for the academy. Evaluations take into account applicants' contributions to innovative teaching and/or learning strategies; nursing education research; faculty development activities; academic leadership; promotion of public policy that advances nursing education; and/or collaborative educational, practice, or community partnerships. G. Rumay Alexander, EdD, RN, FAAN, the president of the NLN and associate vice-chancellor/chief diversity officer and professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, praised the new class, saying: "On behalf of the Board of Governors, I congratulate individuals who represent the enterprise, creativity, and drive that is the foundation of excellence in nursing education. We applaud their critical role in preparing nursing school graduates to deliver sustainable, accessible, culturally-sensitive care to a diverse patient population, which advances the health of the nation and global community." The Academy of Nursing Education fosters excellence in nursing education by recognizing the wisdom of outstanding nurse educators. NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN has stated, "Fellows support the mission and core values of the NLN and assist in the work required to prepare graduates from all types of nursing programs. They serve as mentors and resources for new educators and those in clinical practice who hope to someday enter the ranks of nurse faculty."
