As the National League for Nursing's 2018 Education Summit drew to a close on September 14, the league announced the results of its annual elections. NLN President G. Rumay Alexander, EdD, RN, FAAN, welcomed the latest additions to NLN leadership, while also thanking the continuing slate of officers and governors-at-large that serve the league with distinction.
Angela M. McNelis, PhD, RN, CNE, FAAN, ANEF, professor and associate dean for scholarship, innovation & clinical science at The George Washington University School of Nursing in Washington, DC, has joined the NLN Board of Governors as a new governor-at-large. For the past seventeen years, Dr. McNelis has advanced nursing education through research and leadership. In her current professional role, she has expanded the evidentiary foundation of nursing education through her own scholarship and by serving as a mentor to the next generation of faculty experts in teaching and research excellence. She was inducted with the 2010 Class of Fellows into the NLN Academy of Nursing Education (ANEF), and in 2011 elected as a member of the Nursing Education Research Advisory Council (currently known as NLN Nursing Education Research Review Panel); she served as co-chair of the Panel in 2013-2015, and chaired it in 2016-2018. Dr. McNelis has provided leadership to local, national, and international organizations to influence the future of nursing education, research, and practice, including service on the editorial boards of two journals. Her accomplishments have helped ensure that graduates are well positioned to lead change and advance health for all citizens. Reflecting on her dedication to her new position on the NLN BOG, Dr. McNelis stated: Consistent with the mission, vision, and core values of the NLN, I am proud to contribute to the science of nursing education by developing evidence of best practices and creating new educational models and pedagogical practices that facilitate student readiness for practice. And in a change to the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education (FNE) Board of Trustees, F. Patrick Robinson, PhD, RN, ACRN, CNE, FAAN, Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Capella University, joins as the board's new secretary. Dr. Robinson, who has served for the past two years on the NLN FNE Advisory Council, was elected to a three-year term. A certified AIDS nurse specialist and award-winning educator, Dr. Robinson has a distinguished record of leadership and service to the global HIV/AIDS care community and has received numerous accolades for teaching excellence and curricular innovation. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a NLN Certified Nurse Educator. Dr. Robinson has been a featured speaker at the NLN Education Summit. Describing his commitment to the NLN FNE, Dr. Robinson stated: Education is among our society’s most transformative experiences, and for nursing, a prime driver of quality and safety. I seek to commit my talents to expand our scope in developing and evaluating the evidence upon which our students learn, furthering our philanthropic strategy to support projects of national and global significance, and enhance the value of membership through fostering a culture of innovative professional development.
