| National League for Nursing to Honor State-Affiliated Constituent Leagues at Annual Summit | ||
| Washington, DC — The National League for Nursing will once again recognize one of its Constituent Leagues and a Constituent League leader for outstanding contributions to advancing the mission of the NLN in 2019. The awards presentation will take place at the 2019 NLN Education Summit in the Washington, D.C., area September 26–28.
The Constituent League awards will be presented following the annual CEO Summit Address by Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN. The honors convocation also includes the NLN President's Awards; Nursing Education Research Grants; NLN Foundation for Nursing Education Scholarships; and Jonas Scholar awards. "We rely on our Constituent Leagues to expand the reach and impact of the National League for Nursing through state and regional programming," said NLN President G. Rumay Alexander, EdD, RN, FAAN, professor and former associate vice chancellor/chief diversity officer of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. "That's why it's appropriate that every year we honor a League and League leadership that goes above and beyond to help spread our message of sustained, inclusive, culturally sensitive educational excellence in the preparation of the next generation of nurses to deliver outstanding patient care while advancing the health of the nation and the global community." Constituent League Excellence in Innovation Award Recognizes a league that has successfully implemented one or more innovations to support the NLN's mission and goals The Ohio League for Nursing (OLN) Beyond offering excellent programming opportunities, which has resulted in a recent 15 percent growth in membership, the Ohio League for Nursing (OLN) adopted a public policy agenda with legislative goals focusing on patient access to quality care, education programs for the next generation of nurses and nurse educators, and promoting diversity in the nursing workforce. The League co-leads the Ohio Action Coalition and is working to establish an Ohio Center for Nursing. Constituent League Excellence in Leadership Award Recognizes an individual volunteer who has demonstrated excellence in leadership, service, and commitment to the mission of his or her constituent league Dr. Mary Koch, MSN, RN-BC, CNOR, New Jersey League for Nursing Director of Nursing Education, RWJBH, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Award accepted on her behalf by NJLN President John Lanier A member of the New Jersey League for Nursing (NJLN) for more than 20 years and currently serving her second term on its board of directors, Dr. Koch has demonstrated her enthusiastic participation in League activities by taking a leadership role in planning annual conventions and fundraising galas. Her most significant contribution to date has been chair of the NJLN Membership Committee. She took on this vital task during a transitional period for the League and without clear records of previous membership rolls. Under her guidance, the committee crafted an action plan to increase member engagement and expanded outreach efforts to new members, including engaging nursing students and recent graduates. Thanks to Koch and her team, in the past two years, the New Jersey League has achieved a remarkable 60 percent increase in membership.
