| National League for Nursing Applauds Senate Committee Approval of the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act in the Senate & Training Programs | ||
| Washington, DC — The National League for Nursing commends the bipartisan membership of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee for its vote today to approve the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2019 (S. 1399) introduced by Senators Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), clearing the legislation for a vote by the full Senate. The committee’s action comes three days after the House of Representatives unanimously approved a companion bill (H.R. 728) to reauthorize federal funding for nursing workforce development programs at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). These programs provide vital education and training to nurses and nurse faculty to improve access to and quality of health care in underserved areas.
"Our nation needs more nurses and nurse faculty to continue to meet the high demand for nursing care in a variety of community settings, most especially people living in rural and medically underserved communities. This legislation ensures that all nursing schools can carry on their mission to prepare the next generation of nurses," said NLN President Patricia S.
