| Washington, DC — National League for Nursing CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been voted onto the Board of Directors of the Boston-based Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). She joins a distinguished group of health care professionals dedicated to improving health and health care worldwide through rigorous science, hard work, and a relentless drive for results. As one of just three nurses on the Board and the sole member in nursing education, Dr. Malone will bring a valued perspective to the IHI’s approach and initiatives. The organization engages in extensive educational programming and resource development and distribution.

Under her leadership, the league advanced the science of nursing education by promoting greater collaboration among stakeholders, increasing diversity in nursing and nursing education, and advancing excellence in care for patients. Dr. Malone’s distinguished career has mixed policy, education, administration, and clinical practice, including as federal deputy assistant secretary for health under President Bill Clinton. As a reviewer, she contributed to the groundbreaking IOM report, "The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health," and served on the Minority Health Federal Advisory Committee.
