NLN Applauds Historic Supreme Court Ruling Against LGBTQ+ Workplace Discrimination
Washington, DC — The National League for Nursing applauds the U.S. Supreme Court decision affirming that Title VII federal workplace discrimination protections apply to LGBTQ+ individuals. This is an historic moment for civil rights in our nation, and especially worthy of celebration during National Pride Month.

As health care leaders and professionals, we know that discrimination can reinforce unwarranted stigma and lead to significant adverse mental and physical health impacts. It is important that we stand shoulder to shoulder with our LGBTQ+ colleagues to ensure they are treated equally and fairly under the law.

This decision also affirms one of the National League for Nursing’s Core Values—Diversity. We strongly believe that a culture of inclusive excellence encompasses many identities, influenced by the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious and political beliefs, or other ideologies.

By acknowledging the legitimacy of us all, we move beyond tolerance to celebrating the richness that our differences bring forth. The National League for Nursing will continue our strong support for LGBTQ+ colleagues in nursing education and beyond.
