| Washington, DC — Joining what has now become a growing trend among professional associations and other convention organizers, the National League for Nursing this year will move its annual Education Summit into a virtual format. The 2020 conference had been scheduled to take place in Orlando, Florida, September 23-25. The Summit will still be held on those same dates, just virtually.
With more than 1,000 students, faculty, administrators, and executives from related health care businesses and institutions from across the country and abroad expected to converge on the city, the League is following the guidance of medical experts to safeguard participants’ health, as well as that of their extended families and home communities. “It had become increasingly clear that we had to take this necessary step,” said NLN President Patricia S. Yoder-Wise, RN, EdD, NEA-BC, ANEF, FAONL, FAAN, Professor and Dean Emerita at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and president of The Wise Group. “While numerous benefits to having everyone together in the same location are obvious, with the continuing COVID-19 threat, those benefits are overridden by the League’s priority to minimize risks to our attendees. In an unforgettable year, I believe we offer a distinctive and invaluable opportunity for our nursing education community to model safety first.” NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, said, “We are profoundly grateful to the many scholars and thought leaders in health care for working with us to make this virtual Summit an experience for everyone worthy of their efforts. All interactive learning, training, and events will be accessible in real time from any remote location or stored online for later viewing, offering flexible options for attendees. There will also be expanded opportunities to earn continuing education credits. With the ability to enroll in competing sessions from home and log on whenever it’s convenient, participants may earn significantly more CEUs than at past conferences.
To acknowledge and assist educators, schools and programs facing tighter budgets and financial challenges, the League is lowering the cost of registration to $550, almost half off the regular rate of $995. Moreover, without travel, hotel, and other expenses, this year’s Summit will be far more cost effective overall—a tangible plus for those who need to continue with their professional development during this uncertain economic time.
