NLN Announces 2020 Scholarship Winners

Awards to Be Presented at the 2020 NLN Education Virtual Summit
Washington, DC — Thanks to the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education and Home Instead Senior Care, a total of $50,000 will be awarded among 18 new scholarships for the upcoming academic year to advance nursing education. This is the highest number of scholarships distributed to date. The awards presentation will take place during the 2020 NLN Education Virtual Summit, September 23-25.

“This year has highlighted the greater importance of graduating more nurses across the spectrum of education and practice settings, which is only possible with the support of educational opportunities for students. That is what the National League for Nursing does through its mission to promote excellence in nursing education, and to prepare a diverse, outstanding nursing workforce to advance the health of the nation and of the global community,” said Cole Edmonson, DNP, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, FAAN, chief clinical officer at AMN Healthcare. “I am proud to chair the NLN Foundation and assist these 18 students who are on a path of personal growth, and who will make outstanding contributions to the nursing profession.”

NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN said, “I am delighted to award these scholarships to the highest number of students during the Year of the Nurse. A special ‘thank you’ to the donors to the NLN Foundation and to our partners at Home Instead Senior Care. They along with our volunteers on the Scholarship Selection Committee make possible the NLN scholarship programs. With the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty that it brings, the future of these scholarships depends on continued giving, so I encourage everybody with a stake in nursing to consider making a gift to the NLN Foundation. We want to do all we can to expand the number of scholars deserving our support.”

2020 NLN-Home Instead Scholarships in Geriatric Nursing Education

For the third consecutive year, the NLN Foundation and Home Instead Senior Care teamed up to foster and promote geriatric nursing education through a $10,000 scholarship fund, with scholarships awarded to nursing students enrolled in those courses of study. Older adults are one of the most vulnerable populations and access health care services most frequently. There is widespread acknowledgement that nursing school graduates must be better prepared to deliver outstanding, culturally sensitive care to older adults in hospital, clinical and outpatient community settings.
