| Washington, DC — Modern Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading health publications, has ranked National League for Nursing President and CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN at No. 5 on the magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare for 2020. This prestigious recognition program acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to have had the greatest impact on and exhibited the strongest leadership in the field.
This is the fourth time in the past decade that Dr. Malone has been included in this elite annual ranking of top health care executives, medical professionals, policymakers, and leaders in the government, business and nonprofit sectors. “I am obviously delighted to once again have my work on behalf of nursing education so publicly honored, but feel that this important recognition is not mine alone,” said Dr. Malone. “At the National League for Nursing, we take seriously the commitment to co-creation and collaboration, and thus, I share this honor with our outstanding professional staff, our dedicated Board of Governors, and the hundreds of members throughout the country who serve on League committees and task forces. In January, Modern Healthcare named Dr. Malone one of five inaugural Minority Healthcare Luminaries, an awards program the magazine created this year to recognize a shortlist from its Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare whose career achievements have reshaped the industry. Among Dr. Malone’s lengthy list of accomplishments, the editors cited her call to incorporate social determinants of health in nursing education curricula. In naming her one of its Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare in 2018, Modern Healthcare noted her vision and leadership in the League’s promoting diversity and inclusion in models of nursing education and health care delivery as well as efforts to recruit and retain students and faculty from communities of color and other marginalized demographics.
Dr. Malone has been a perennial figure in Modern Healthcare’s awards programs. In 2017, she was chosen one of the Top 25 Women in Healthcare, following two consecutive years on the list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare. In 2015, that list was headlined by President Barack Obama and Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
