| Washington, DC — The National League for Nursing proudly announces the selection, through competitive application, of 22 nurse educators and nurses in practice for the 2021 NLN Leadership Institute. The group will follow the LEAD track, one of three the Leadership Institute created and sponsors through the NLN Center for Transformational Leadership. LEAD is designed for nurses in education and practice who have recently been challenged with rapid transition into leadership positions, those in leadership positions who desire a formal leadership program, and those emerging and aspiring to lead.
The yearlong program represents a significant investment in professional leadership development. Participants spend a calendar year engaged in activities to identify personal and professional goals; learn about what makes an effective leader; and strategize how to retool skill sets and experiences to achieve individual and institutional benchmarks. To that end, everyone receives intensive one-on-one executive coaching. In addition, they attend online and live group coaching sessions (when possible), retreats, and webinars, where they study leadership theory and development that includes case study review.
The 2021 cohort will have its first meeting, a virtual orientation, February 8-9. The Intensive Leadership Retreat is currently scheduled for July 11-14 at the League’s headquarters. They will next reconvene at the 2021 NLN Education Summit: Leading and Teaching Beyond Resilience, currently planned for September 23 -25 at National Harbor near Washington, D.C.

The 2021 LEAD participants will be distinctly positioned to guide current and future nurses in fulfilling their responsibilities on the health care team.”

We are excited to launch into the year’s programming with such an eager and qualified group of participants.”
LEAD is overseen by Dr. Janice Brewington, the National League for Nursing’s chief program officer and director of the NLN Center for Transformational Leadership, with support from NLN LEAD consultant Dr. Inez Tuck.
