Washington, DC — National League for Nursing President and CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, is one of the elite women in health care named a 2021 Modern Healthcare Luminary, a special awards category that recognizes health care executives of distinction from its ranking of Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare. This is Dr. Malone’s second Luminary honor since the designation was inaugurated a year ago; she was chosen for the first list in January 2020 of Minority Healthcare Luminaries.
Modern Healthcare Luminaries are executives whose careers have transformed health care through novel policies, advocacy, programming and other initiatives to effect vital changes in health care access, delivery and outcomes. In positions of top leadership within their organizations and in the public eye, they are perennial figures in Modern Healthcare’s respected awards programs. The Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare specifically spotlights the winners’ administrative and professional accomplishments in leading change and guiding national health care improvement. This distinction also highlights their service as inspirational role models, mentors and forceful advocates for increasing female advancement to the C-suite in health care.
“On behalf of the National League for Nursing Board of Governors, I congratulate Dr. Malone on this singular honor. The Luminaries award puts her in a category over and above the already competitive field of women thought leaders in health care to reflect her can-do approach that turns vision into reality. Dr. Malone works tirelessly, supported by staff and volunteer leadership, to make health care more accessible, equitable, inclusive and diverse for this and future generations of nurses, patients, families and communities,” said NLN Chair Dr. Patricia S. Yoder-Wise, RN, EdD, NEA-BC, ANEF, FAONL, FAAN, Professor and Dean Emerita at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and president of The Wise Group. “She is unquestionably the engine that drives the League forward in continually raising the bar for excellence in nursing and nursing education on a global scale.”
“Not only is it a privilege to be chosen again by the editors of Modern Healthcare and by so many of my peer colleagues in health care organizations throughout the nation, it is my pleasure to acknowledge the importance that the publication and the field now place on elevating women leaders in health care by offering space and time for our achievements to be recognized,” said Dr. Malone.
Dr. Malone will be formally honored at a virtual awards celebration on July 23 as part of a two-day virtual Women Leaders in Healthcare Conference. Conference participants will gain knowledge, insight and guidance from the leading women in the industry on career advancement, informed decision-making, and enhancing skill sets. It will also be an opportunity for networking among a community committed to personal and professional development, open to sharing common challenges and celebrating success on the road to advancement in health care.
“Honorees of the 2021 Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare Award Program have a mission to combat the longstanding imbalance of gender equity at the top rungs of leadership by promoting and hiring more female executives. They serve as mentors and create workplaces that embrace diversity and inclusion. And last year, they did this all while guiding their organizations through a global pandemic,” said Modern Healthcare Editor Aurora Aguilar. “The honorees, chosen out of hundreds of nominations, represent passionate leadership and measurable results in bringing greater diversity to the C-suite and beyond. Because of the importance of these efforts in improving healthcare, we also are excited to announce that from now on we will be recognizing these outstanding leaders every year. Congratulations to the Class of 2021.” Until this year, the Top 25 list of women leaders was released biannually.
Dr. Malone was first chosen for the Top 25 Women in Healthcare in 2017, which followed three years in which she was named to the publication’s Top 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare. The following year, in 2018, she was among Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Minority Leaders in Healthcare. In 2020, Dr. Malone again made the ranking of Top 100 Most Influential, the same year she was tapped for the inaugural list of Minority Luminaries.
