| Washington, DC — The National League for Nursing Commission on Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) broke new ground this month, granting its first pre-accreditation abroad—to the master’s in nursing science pre-licensure degree program offered by The Centre for Postgraduate Nursing Studies at the University of Otago in Christchurch, New Zealand.
NLN CNEA Executive Director, Judith A. Halstead, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, FAAN said, “This latest CNEA milestone reflects our longstanding commitment to promoting excellence in nursing education on a global scale. We anticipate growing interest and participation from schools abroad with the announcement of this first international accreditation action and look forward to providing accreditation services to more nursing programs throughout the world.”
Since its launch in 2014 to offer an alternative values-driven accreditation credential to nursing programs across the academic spectrum, CNEA has grown quickly. Under the direction of Dr. Halstead, the commission today has accredited or pre-accredited over 100 programs throughout the United States. These programs represent more than 16,000 students enrolled in practical/vocational nursing, diploma (RN), associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and clinical doctoral programs.
Programs that apply for CNEA accreditation must demonstrate in concrete, measurable terms how the CNEA accreditation standards are incorporated into curriculum and instruction and campus culture, as determined by trained program evaluators.
