NLN Welcomes 2021 Class of Fellows into the Academy of Nursing Education

Induction Ceremony Set for the 2021 NLN Education Summit
Washington, DC — Nineteen distinguished nurse educators have been selected for the fifteenth class of fellows to be inducted into the prestigious National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education. With the addition of the new fellows, academy membership now totals 302 leading nurse educators who teach in a range of programs across the spectrum of higher education. They are affiliated with top-ranked teaching hospitals, academic institutions, and other organizations committed to advancing the quality of health care in the U.S. and globally.

Following tradition, the induction ceremony will take place at the Honors Convocation on Saturday, September 25, during the 2021 NLN Education Summit. The return to a live gathering this year near Washington, D.C., will celebrate these new academy fellows, along with other recipients of honors, scholarship awards, and research grants.

In a competitive application process, the Academy of Nursing Education Review Panel has a great deal to consider before recommending fellowship candidates to the League’s Board of Governors, the oversight body for the academy. Evaluations take into account applicants’ contributions to innovative teaching and/or learning strategies; nursing education research; faculty development activities; academic leadership; promotion of public policy initiatives that advance nursing education; and/or collaborative educational, practice, or community partnerships.

NLN Chair Dr. Patricia S. Yoder-Wise, RN, EdD, NEA-BC, ANEF, FAONL, FAAN, Professor and Dean Emerita at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and president of The Wise Group said, "On behalf of the National League for Nursing Board of Governors, I applaud all of the new academy fellows. These are individuals who have made substantive contributions throughout their careers and as with last year’s class, they represent the extraordinary leadership, fortitude, creativity and compassion it took to maneuver through the toughest of circumstances brought on by the pandemic. They have demonstrated unqualified success in preparing and motivating students to deliver outstanding, culturally sensitive health care."

NLN President and CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN said, “We cannot overstate the role of nursing education and of these leading nurse educator-fellows in supporting and facilitating excellence in frontline health care delivery to a diverse patient population during a time of unprecedented challenge in our lifetimes.”

The Academy of Nursing Education fosters excellence in nursing education by recognizing the wisdom of outstanding nurse educators. According to Dr. Malone, "Fellows support the mission and core values of the National League for Nursing and assist in the work required to prepare graduates from all types of nursing programs. They serve as mentors and resources for new educators and those in clinical practice who hope to someday enter the ranks of nurse faculty."
