Achieving Distinction in Nursing Education
Edited by Marsha Howell Adams, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, FAAN, and Theresa M. “Terry” Valiga, EdD, RN, CNE, ANEF, FAAN
Based on the National League for Nursing Hallmarks of Excellence in Nursing Education Model, Achieving Distinction in Nursing Education provides in-depth discussions of the eight core elements for superior nursing education: engaged students; diverse, well-prepared faculty; culture of continuous quality improvement; innovative, evidence-based curriculum and approaches to facilitate and evaluate learning; resources to support program goal attainment; commitment to pedagogical scholarship; and effective institutional and professional leadership.
In addition, Drs. Adams and Valiga present accompanying indicators to assist nurse educators in assessing the strengths of their programs and identifying areas for further development. Featuring contributions from 15 recognized experts and thought leaders in nursing education, administration, and research, this resource is designed to challenge and inspire instructors to advance toward unparalleled outcomes for personal career and institutional goals.
The NLN Jeffries Simulation Theory
By Pamela R. Jeffries, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF
This Second Edition of Dr. Jeffries' seminal work establishes the substantive foundation essential for research, education, and practice, and advances knowledge in the area of simulation. Created through a systematic process involving robust research and literature review, along with nursing perspectives from those immersed in simulations, this work can be an effective tool or guide to implementation as well as for further research.
This edition also provides an updated review of the theory, which explains the phenomenon of simulation, presents an updated systematic review of the theoretical constructs and uses of the theory, and highlights future research needs in the area of clinical simulation. This mid-range theory provides a way to study the phenomenon of simulation that can facilitate the exploration of best practices, outcomes, and system change through research and development that will contribute further to the discovery of new knowledge and practices.
“This year, of all years, aiming for distinction in nursing education and utilizing creative approaches such as simulation were major forces in advancing the preparation of America’s nurses to respond to an unbelievable public health emergency,” said NLN Chair Dr. Patricia S. Yoder-Wise, RN, EdD, NEA-BC, ANEF, FAONL, FAAN, Professor and Dean Emerita at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and president of The Wise Group.
NLN President and CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN said, “The publication of these two scholarly studies couldn’t be more timely or more essential to faculty, students, and ultimately, the patients and families that benefit from excellence in care delivery. I urge every nurse educator to reserve copies of these new volumes.”
