NLN Simulation Innovation Resource Center Introduces New Online Series with SIRC Reimagined
New Generation of Courses Offer Scaffolded Approach to Professional Development
Washington, DC — In the first major update to its professional development curricula since launching in 2008, the Simulation Innovation Resource Center (SIRC) at the National League for Nursing presents SIRC Reimagined, a series of new online courses, offered on two levels: Foundation and Deeper Dive.
“As nursing education has evolved during the past decade, simulation education has been on the cutting edge of change, integrating the latest technologies into the development of critical thinking skills required for effective patient care. The Simulation Innovation Resource Center has proven to be a go-to destination for nurse educators to master diverse simulation teaching strategies, grounded in theory and evidence, to support learners as they transition to competent and caring clinicians,” said NLN Chair Kathleen Poindexter, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, interim associate dean of academic affairs at Michigan State University in Lansing.
NLN President and CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, said, “With this innovative set of courses, simulation nurse educators will be able to select from a menu designed for differing skills, interests, and teaching backgrounds. Fully engaging with
the material, they will curate a highly specialized skill set in the art and science of dialogue, teaching pedagogy, and psychological safety to facilitate immersive, evidence-based simulation experiences for their students.”
The Foundation series consists of seven distinct courses for the novice simulation nurse educator to build a strong portfolio in best practices. Designed as asynchronous, self-paced, virtual experiences, they offer nurse educators flexibility in their
teaching/learning development.
Those ready for a more advanced level of study may elect one or all of the four Deeper Dive courses. These synchronous, virtual experiences are offered either quarterly or monthly, depending on the course, and require an hour of preparatory work prior
to each session. These courses are part of the NLN educator toolbox for developing excellence in teaching.
Both Foundation and Deeper Dive courses are eligible for continuing education credit. Complete information is available on the NLN website at
