NLN CNEA Announces 2022 Election Results

Board of Commissioners & Nominations Committee Members Elected to Three- & Two-Year Terms

Washington, DC — The National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA) is pleased to announce the results of its 2022 elections. All those elected will begin three-year terms for the Board of Commissioners and two-year terms for the Nominations Committee effective January 1, 2023.

Susan Welch, PhD(c), EdD, RN, CNE, alumnus CCRN, was re-elected to a second term on the board as a nurse educator on the NLN CNEA Board of Commissioners. Dr. Welch is an associate professor at the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The other newly elected members of the Board of Commissioners include:

  • Rachel Choudhury, MSN, RN, CNE, CNEcl, dean of nursing, Arizona College of Nursing, Ontario, California
  • Jan Emory, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE, associate professor, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas
  • Janina Johnson, DNP, RN, CNE, executive director of nursing, Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona
  • Brooke McAtee, PhD, RN, director of nursing programs, Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri 
  • Karen Morin, PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN, retired associate dean of academic affairs, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Kalamazoo, Michigan
Representing Nursing Practice:
  • Angela Larson, PhD, APRN, CNS, ACCNS-AG, CCNS, CCRN, clinical nurse education specialist, UF Health Jacksonville North Campus, Jacksonville, Florida
Newly elected members of the Nominations Committee include:
  • Joanna McManus, DNP, MSPA, MSN, RN, assistant professor, Nightingale College, Salt Lake City, Utah—representing practical nursing programs
  • Regina Mirabella, EdD, MSN, BSN, RN, nursing professor, Pasco-Hernando State College, New Port Richey, Florida—representing associate degree nursing programs
  • Anjanette Raber, PhD, RN, CNE, BSN program director, University of Portland School of Nursing, Portland, Oregon—representing bachelor’s degree nursing programs

These diverse individuals will help to advance the NLN CNEA’s work ensuring quality nursing education accreditation excellence,” said NLN CNEA Executive Director Teresa Shellenbarger, PhD, RN, CNE, CNEcl, ANEF. “I appreciate that the voters took their time to review the candidates and elect these exceptional individuals representing nursing programs from across the academic spectrum.”

The 15-member board provides leadership and direction to the accreditation services and is responsible for all accreditation decisions on nursing programs that seek accreditation from the NLN CNEA. The Nominations Committee is one of many standing committees and special task forces that facilitate the work of the commission.
