bevphotoDear NLN Member,

It's mid-April and tax day – for many people, a dreaded time of the year. But I have some exciting news that you will not want to miss. The NLN Foundation for Nursing Education has announced a call for applications for its annual Scholarship Awards Program. To support the goal of attracting more seasoned and ethnically diverse nurses to become nurse educators, the NLN Foundation will award scholarships of up to $8,000 to assist in the completion of graduate education. Funds may be used for tuition, support for a dissertation or thesis, or travel for attendance at an onsite internship or classes.

Please share this information with colleagues and graduate students and let everyone know that applications are due May 13 by 4:00 pm ET. And please think about your role in making this scholarship program possible. As I wrote on February 18, when we give to the NLN Foundation, we are giving "back to nursing education, to the nurses of the future, and to those nurse faculty who strive each day to advance the science of nursing education."

April is Alcohol Awareness Month, and instead of toasting it, how about a look at some salient facts. Here, five things you should know about alcohol.

Today's other good news from the NLN concerns the NLN Center for Assessment and Evaluation, which recently announced its partnership with Questionmark®, a supplier of technologies that enable institutions, organizations, and corporations to accurately and securely measure knowledge, skills, and attitudes to promote successful learning.

Using Questionmark's state-of-the-art software and a custom-built portal, NLN Testing Services offers improved delivery of the exams we distribute worldwide in multiple languages. The first products we released included newly developed and revised end-of-program exams in English and French, the Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam (NACE), and the Spanish Achievement Exams used by schools of nursing in Puerto Rico. How about that?

With Questionmark's advanced software system, we are able to expand our products and services with a leap forward in analytics. We provide comprehensive, reliable, and valid data in time-sensitive reports to better aid testing professionals, scholars, schools of nursing, allied health care organizations, and other stakeholders in nursing education.

For a demonstration of the League's new testing system, please call customer service at 800-732-8656 or email customerhelp@nln.org. And realize this – as with all NLN endeavors, we need your participation. Become involved as an item writer or test reviewer and have a unique opportunity to influence the quality and content of the tests we produce for nursing education and practice. After all, our members are our best resource.

Before I close this Member Update, I must point out that the collaboration between Dr. Janice Brewington, chief program officer and director of the Center for Assessment and Evaluation, and chief administration officer Linda Christensen has been exemplary. They have worked together to bring about a true transformation for NLN Testing Services.

I also would like to say something good about the arrival of spring. I really would, colleagues, I'm trying. I do believe it's right around the corner ... I'm just having difficulty finding the corner.

Hold on to all the best; manage all the rest,
