NLN 2015 Day on the Hill
Members of the NLN Board of Governors and the Public Policy Committee descended upon Capitol Hill on April 28th for the NLN’s annual Day on the Hill. The NLN visited 40 Congressional offices to advocate for the following issues:

  • Funding for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMSHA) centers at the following levels:
    • Center for Mental Health Services at $1.078 billion
    • Center for Substance Abuse Treatment at $2.141 billion
    • Center for Substance Abuse Prevention at $211 million
    • SAMHSA Health Surveillance & Program Support, agency‐wide Initiatives at $78 million
  • Funding for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Title VIII nursing workforce development programs at $244 million in fiscal year (FY) 2016
  • Funding for HRSA’s Title VII health workforce programs at $280 million in FY 2016

NLN Testimony Submitted to House and Senate
The NLN recently submitted written testimony to the House and Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittees. The testimony focused on the importance of funding HRSA’s Title VIII nursing workforce development programs at the same level they received in FY 2010 which was $244 million. Copies of the House testimony and Senate testimony are available in the workforce legislative issue section of the NLN website.

NLN Public Policy Agenda 2015-2016
The new NLN Public Policy Agenda for 2015 and 2016 has been published. Its purpose is to articulate priority issues addressed by the NLN; inform members and colleague organizations, the public, government officials, and the media about the NLN’s public policy interests; and provide a framework for the NLN’s analysis and synthesis of developments that influence public policy.
