May 2, 2018 | NLN Member Update: NLN CEO Update on Nurses Week 2018
XXII, Issue Number 9 May 2, 2018 |
Dear %%NLN_Informal%% - %%UserID_%%,
Colleagues, did you know that Florence Nightingale, born on May 12, 1820, was named after the city of her birth, Florence, Italy, and that her last name, Nightingale, would not have been the family name except for the complex old English law? Florence's father, born William Edward Shore, took the name Nightingale when he inherited the estate of his great uncle Peter Nightingale in 1815. We continue to honor Florence Nightingale each year on May 12 as we celebrate International Nurses Day 2018, the final day of National Nurses Week. I recently had the opportunity to chat with NLN president Dr. G. Rumay Alexander about this year’s Nurses Week theme: Nurses: Inspire, Innovate, Influence. This video captures the highlights of our conversation — we hope you find it interesting and even inspiring. As nurse educators, NLN members inspire, innovate, and have an enormous influence on all future nurses. Enjoy your special week, and be sure to review the Dates and Deadlines outlined below — there are several important deadlines in May that you will not want to miss. All the best, Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN Chief Executive Officer
