Alex Azar Sworn in as HHS Secretary


 Alex M. Azar II was sworn in as the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) after being confirmed by the Senate on January 24 in a vote of 55-43. Six Democrats and Independent Senator Angus King (Maine) joined all but one Republican to support the confirmation.

Government Funded Until February 8


 Last month, the President signed a spending bill to fund the government through February 8 that includes a six-year funding extension for the popular Children's Health Insurance Program, which became ensnared for months in the 2018 spending fights. A number of states had been running short of federal funds for their programs, with 11 expected to run out by the end of next month. Read more...

Did You Know You Have Two Opportunities To Vote This Year?


The general election is on November 6, 2018 and you should vote in that election. But you have an opportunity to vote earlier this year in what is called a primary election. A primary election is used by political parties to determine candidates who will run for all partisan offices in their states on the general election ballot. The primary election is just as important as the general election.

Government to Develop Plan on Mental Health Access for New Veterans


 The President recently signed an executive order directing the departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs to submit a joint action plan within 60 days to improve access to mental health care and suicide prevention for veterans during the first year after they leave the armed forces.
