SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER WORKFORCE LOAN REPAYMENT ACT PASSES THE HOUSE


    Last month, the House of Representatives passed HR 5102, the Substance Use Disorder Workforce Loan Repayment Act of 2018. This bill creates a loan repayment program for individuals who complete a period of service in a substance use disorder treatment job in a mental health professional shortage area or a county where the drug overdose death rate is higher than the national average. HOUSE PASSES OPIOID LEGISLATION


    The US House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed legislation on June 22 that would make it easier for APRNs to treat patients suffering from opioid addiction. In a 396-14 vote, the House approved HR 6, the Support for Patients and Communities Act, a package of smaller bills that attack the opioid crisis on multiple fronts. Read more...

HOUSE COMMITTEE ADVANCES REAUTHORIZATION LEGISLATION


    Last month, the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (HR 959) was passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health by a voice vote. HR 959 would reauthorize the Nursing Workforce Development Programs through fiscal year 2023. This is the first step in the Committee process as we work toward passage in the House. Read more...

NLN VOICES CONCERN OVER FAMILY SEPARATION


    The NLN along with 33 other nursing organizations sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security Secretary expressing our severe distress over the Administration's current policy of separating children from their parents at our nation's borders. The League's mission is to promote excellence in nursing education to build a strong and more diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of our nation and the global community. Read more...
