Susan Deane, EdD, CNE, RN is an Online Education Consultant specializing in curriculum development, teaching with technology, virtual simulation, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing education. She is a noted nurse educator with over 25 years of experience in nursing education. She served as the Dean and Professor of the School of Nursing at the State University of NY’s (SUNY) College of Technology at Delhi until her retirement in August 2023.
During her time as Dean, she established several partnerships for students which included the Catskill Hutson Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Catskill Pathways to Recovery Program, and Remote Area Medical (RAM). Following the pandemic, she hosted SUNY Delhi’s Learning Management System (LMS) for the International Council of Nursing’s (ICN) Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI) and served as their technical support for two years.
Dr. Deane has developed expertise in best practices for online learning, program and course development, and the use of technology in nursing education. Technology and virtual simulation have been her passions for many years. Her more recent work includes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing education, and she obtained an AI educator certification at Auburn University.
She holds a post-master's certificate in Healthcare Informatics and EdD with a specialization in Higher Education Leadership. Her doctoral dissertation investigated the use of Virtual Clinical Experiences in nursing education and their validity and effectiveness in teaching clinical judgment and clinical reasoning. She has presented at many national conferences such as the ATI Nursing Educator Summit, International Nurses Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Annual Conference, National League of Nurses (NLN), Sigma Biennial Conventions, SUNY CIT Conferences, and. Teaching Professor’s Technology Conference on various topics related to virtual simulation, online course development, technology, and distance education teaching and learning. In addition, she has experience as a facilitator for panel discussions.
