Jennifer Lachel Story, PhD, RN
A distinguished leader in nursing education and healthcare transformation, with a career dedicated to driving innovative solutions that address complex challenges in healthcare and higher education. As the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions at The University of Southern Mississippi, Dr. Story has spearheaded strategic initiatives that have significantly advanced the institution’s mission, leading to improved educational outcomes, expanded research opportunities, and increased funding to support critical programs. Dr. Story’s academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Nursing Research from The University of Mississippi Medical Center, a Master of Science in Nursing focused on Adult Health, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Southern Mississippi. These credentials, paired with decades of hands-on experience, form the foundation of her leadership and scholarly endeavors. Over her career, she has held various leadership positions, including Executive Associate Dean, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education, and Director of Advanced Nursing Practice, each role further refining her skills in transforming academic programs and healthcare services. With a proven track record of securing substantial external funding and philanthropic support, Dr. Story has led and collaborated on numerous funded projects totaling over $10 million grant funding as well as approximately $20 million in philanthropic support. Her work includes research grants, service grants, and program development, with notable contributions to scholarship programs, healthcare workforce initiatives, and innovative models for nursing education. These projects not only brought financial resources to the university but also created impactful learning and service opportunities for students and faculty, addressing healthcare shortages and disparities. As a published author and researcher, Dr. Story has contributed extensively to the field of nursing and health sciences. Her publications include several editions of two Pathophysiology textbooks, and articles in high-impact journals that explore topics such as patient-centered care, health disparities, and innovative educational strategies in nursing. Her scholarly contributions reflect her commitment to integrating research and practice to solve real-world problems and enhance patient outcomes. Dr. Story’s expertise extends beyond academia through consultancy roles and leadership in professional organizations. She has provided expert advice on accreditation processes and curriculum development, served as a consultant for nursing programs across the country, and held key positions within organizations such as the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the Southern Nurses Research Society.
